 How can I help?

Practice Areas

Professional Complaints, Investigations, and Discipline

Advice from someone who can consider the issues objectively—and communicate your perspective in a productive manner—can make all the difference.

Brooke has spent her career representing professionals before the Law Society and Ontario and health professions colleges. She knows how to respond to complaints and investigations to address the issues raised and maximize the likelihood of achieving the best available outcome.

Whenever possible, Brooke helps clients resolve complaints and investigations before they enter the discipline process. But when a discipline hearing is unavoidable, she provides resolute and strategic advocacy to respond to allegations of professional misconduct through a contested hearing.

 Legal Ethics and Professionalism Advice

Whether proactive or in response to a challenge that has arisen in your practice, getting objective advice on legal ethics and professionalism can protect you, your firm, and your clients—and address potential regulatory issues before they arise.

We can help with questions about:

  • Conflicts of interest

  • Duties when leaving a law firm

  • Confidentiality obligations

  • Withdrawal from representation

  • Transferring a client file

  • Firm business structures
  • Expanding to a new jurisdiction

  • Joint retainers

  • Referral fee arrangements

  • Marketing rules

  • Law firm policies

  • Inadvertent disclosure

  • Lawyer licensing issues

...and other professional conduct concerns.

Appeals and

Judicial Reviews

Advocacy on appeal is different from trial advocacy—and specialized experience and a fresh perspective is useful after you've been immersed in a case through a contested hearing.

Brooke has acted on dozens of appeals. She is not only intimately familiar with the procedural requirements and applicable standards of review, but she has developed good judgment about what errors to raise on appeal; how to develop a persuasive and focused written argument; and how to address the issues troubling the court on oral argument.

Brooke can act as lead counsel on appeal, join your team as co-counsel, provide a preliminary opinion, or consult on and assist with your appeal factum and oral argument in the background.
